角逐白宮失敗的美國民主黨總統候選人希拉蕊，把敗選歸咎於俄羅斯駭客搞鬼，她跟民主黨的選舉金主說，因為她曾質疑俄羅斯國會大選舞弊，而與普丁結下樑子，她也認為聯邦調查局長在選前胡亂攪和，也是她輸掉好幾個關鍵州的原因。（夏明珠報導）
這是希拉蕊首次對俄羅斯駭客攻擊美國大選的傳聞，發表意見，希拉蕊說，普丁把五年前俄羅斯國會大選後爆發的群眾示威，怪在她的頭上，他在美國總統大選期間的所作所為，都是在報復。
星期五，美國總統歐巴馬也在他的年終記者會上，為他在俄羅斯駭客攻擊美國大選這件事情上的處置，自我辯護。他說，他之所以沒有在第一時間就明白點出俄羅斯駭客的動機，是怕傷害到選舉的公正性。不過，歐巴馬透露，他曾在九月間與普丁的高峰會上，明白的要求普丁住手，並警告他這麼做可能導致的嚴重後果。他沒有透露普丁當時怎麼反應。
中情局判定俄羅斯的動機就是為了幫助川普當選，川普駁斥這是民主黨輸不起，替自己找藉口。
在談到他與川普互動時，歐巴馬說，儘管雙方在俄羅斯駭客這件事上，看法不同，但是他認為在其他關於政府事務的運作上，川普有聽進他的建議，歐巴馬說，未來只要川普有需要，他願意隨時提供建言。
